Learn about wines by grape

Want to learn more about wine grapes? Ever wandered what grapes go into certain wines, and wanted to learn wines by grape? For example, ever wondered what grape is Prosecco made from? It’s Glera, by the way! Or, what does Pinot Noir taste like? Well, the best Pinot Noir tastes like red fruits and have a certain indescribable and arresting earthiness! Or even, what’s the difference between Zinfandel and Primitivo? The answer is nothing; they’re the same grape!

Wine profiles and grape descriptions

Our wine by grape guides are great ways to help you learn about wine. The guides offer insight into the flavour profile of the grape, focusing on the four main structural components of acidity, tannin, body and alcohol – (as well as sweetness). We also offer descriptors of wine flavours. For us at Vinspiration, as much as it’s inspiring to claim that an Albariño tastes like the sea – many of us haven’t had a chance to lick the ocean. So we try and apply straight forward descriptions to wine so that our readers get the most understanding from our guides. (By the way, an Albariño has a certain salinity (saltiness) too it, as well as light stone fruit flavours (apricot, white peach) and blossom – it’s one of our favourites!)

A guide to wine and food pairings

Our wine guides also provide detailed examples of wine and food pairings. We try to be as broad as possible; it would be impossible to pair dishes with only one type of wine, from one region of the world – so we try and give you as many options as possible. While our grape guides are designed as a useful tool to inform readers about multiple wine and food pairing options.
